100 Days to IMO 2020
Purify Fuel Helps The World’s Marine Shippers Facing New, Stringent Fuel Standards.
September 25, 2019 – Today marks 100 days until a new international maritime regulation goes into effect, according to Purify Fuel’s President, Marine Group, Vice Admiral John “Fozzie” Miller, USN (Ret). Starting January 1, 2020, the limit for sulfur in fuel oil used by ships operating outside designated emission control areas will be reduced to 0.50% m/m (mass by mass) from 3.50% m/m.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulation prohibits the carriage of non-compliant fuel oil unless the vessel is equipped with a scrubber. This new lower sulfur limit on fuel oil, while increasing environmental and human health benefits, also presents a costly challenge for ship operators across the heavy marine transportation market. Purify Fuel provides a solution to help meet the new standard, without the need for engine modification or upfront costs, with its nanO2 Diesel Combustion Catalyst®.
“Globally, nearly 80% of all goods by volume and 60% by value travel by ship,” says Miller. “If we can make the fuel used more efficient and do it with less emissions, that’s a very a good thing.”
The heavy marine transportation market is one of the largest users of diesel fuel. Pound for pound, diesel is the most powerful energy source for heavy transportation. Unfortunately, diesel combustion is also one of the largest sources of harmful emissions. While energy markets move toward cleaner, renewable fuel sources, diesel usage will continue to grow. The fuel industry needs an effective, practical solution now to cut emissions on a global scale. Purify Fuel bridges that gap for users of diesel fuel worldwide.
About Purify Fuel: Purify Fuel develops, manufactures and markets patented non-metallic nanotechnology: nanO2 Combustion Catalysts® that are custom blended to optimize diesel fuel and biodiesel blends for marine, fracking, military, mining, power generation, rail, and biodiesel refining markets. The combustion catalysts increase energy harvested from each gram of fuel while reducing PM emissions and soot created by incomplete combustion. Purify Fuel works directly with large consumers of diesel and biodiesel fuel to help them save money, increase power, and reduce emissions.
