NRE Power Systems, a globally recognized provider of diesel engine parts, sales and service to the exploration, marine, rail and power generation markets confirmed that Purify Fuel’s nanO₂ Combustion Catalysts® significantly decrease emissions while increasing fuel efficiency and engine power, without costly engine upgrades.

NRE was independently tasked by a leading short line railroad to test Purify Fuel’s nanO₂ Combustion Catalysts® in a 2-stroke, 3,000 HP, turbocharged EMD engine capable of powering a marine vessel or a locomotive. It was removed from a tugboat that was built in 1975.

Findings include lowered fuel consumption by up to 8.9%, in addition to simultaneous reductions in oxides of nitrogen (NOx) by 20% and carbon monoxide (CO) by 17%. This is very exciting because usually, when fuel efficiency increases, one of the gases will increase while the other one decreases, or vice versa. In his 43-year history, the NRE test conductor said he never saw a product that performed this way.

The test uses a three-phase procedure including establishing baseline performance, cleaning the engine (with a double-dose of nanO₂) and, conditioning the engine (with single-dose of nanO₂) to measure performance across all notch levels. Exhaust opacity was reduced by 50%, and noise was also reduced by 15%.
